Euphoria Star Sydney Sweeney on Season 2, Sexuality, and Typecasting
Sydney Sweeney opens up about her role in the hit HBO series Euphoria
Actress Sydney Sweeney discusses her preparations for filming the series, her portrayal of Cassie, and her relationships.
In an interview with Variety, Sweeney talked about her work on the show's second season, her character's sexuality, and whether she feels typecast. Sweeney said she was drawn to the role of Cassie because she is a "very complex" character and she wanted to challenge herself with the portrayal. She also said she worked with the show's writers and producers to develop Cassie's backstory and make her more relatable to audiences. The sweet and popular Cassie has difficulty navigating relationships as rumors of her sexual history circulate the school.
Sweeney also spoke about her character's sexuality, saying that she believes Cassie is "still figuring out who she is" and that she "doesn't label herself." Sweeney said she was glad the show was able to explore Cassie's sexuality in a nuanced and realistic way.
When asked if she feels typecast, Sweeney said that she doesn't "mind being typecast" as a "sex symbol" or a "teenager" because she is "proud of the work that she does." She said she is also grateful for the opportunities that her roles have given her and she is excited to continue to challenge herself as an actress.
